Bath Town House

Spring 2024
This project consisted on improving the design of an urban block and developing a townhouse within that block.
Bath, England

The urban part of this project consisted on improving the design of one block from the masterplan done in Phase I. To do this, I focused on providing better circulation. I created a street that crosses through to facilitate this, and eliminated the need for gardens on the opposite side by transforming that side of the block into apartment buildings as opposed to houses. This then left a vehicular space area where residents could use for better circulation and parking within the block.
We then had to focus on one of the town houses in the block. My main priority was to optimize natural light as much as I could. Therefore, I decided to place the stairhall in the middle to enable light access to the rooms. Based on this decision, I placed the main rooms on the front and back, and filled the space between the stairs and the walls with secondary rooms. Additionally, most of the bathrooms are stacked upon each other to facilitate piping systems.

In the section, I began to play more with room hierarchy. In more important rooms, I included architraves in addition to an entablature, while secondary rooms were only finished with the entablature. Finally, the elevation design is meant to blend in with the character of Bath. For this purposes, I implemented rustication on the first level and arched openings.
