Bath Block Masterplan

For this project, we focused on integrating our masterplan in the already existing urban fabric as seamlessly as possible. We noticed how the city became more residential as one progresses south east away from the river. Therefore, we decided to create our masterplan as such. We completed the existing residential blocks in the North of our plan. Our purely commercial buildings are facing the river, while the mixed use and civic buildings expand from that towards the center of the sight.
We realized how people approach the sight is extremely important as well. Our main access points would be from the river fornt (which is also a space in itself), Johnston Street (next to the commercial buildings), and William Street (between the two civic buildings. In Johnston and William Street, we decided to play with compression and expansion. The viewer would approach through these streets that would then open to this central piazza area.

In here, one would find a market hall on one side, which is one of the civic buildings, a piazza and a street in the middle, and mixed use buildings on the other side. The mixed use buildings would have internal courtyards to serve the clients of the commercial spaces on the lower floors. These would be accessible from the piazza via restaurants and other commercial spaces.
Standing in the piazza, one would be able to see a clock tower on one of the commercial buildings, that would guide the viewer ultimately to the river front area. The masterplan is meant to contain houses and apartments of ranging economic levels, including buildings with differing heights and facilities.
